Christian Rudder, founder of OkCupid joins NetElixir’s annual X=Experience event!
X=Experience is an exclusive, collaborative, knowledge-sharing, and networking event for senior retail executives and Ivy League professors. The mission of X=Experience is to expand the boundaries of digital interactivity by bringing together thought leaders from academia and industry in an environment that stimulates path-breaking ideation through free-flowing discussions. Christian Rudder is a perfect speaker to bridge this gap.
In the age of big data, Christian Rudder stands out. Rudder is in possession of one of the richest data sets in the world, accumulated from the dating site he co-founded, OkCupid. In his book, Dataclysm, he uses this data to show the human behavior behind the numbers: a revolutionary look at who we truly are. Through this data, he is able to illustrate who we are when we think no one is looking. Rudder will unpack all the data that we share online. As more aspects of our lives move online, the old way of using polls and small-scale lab experiments to study behavior will be a thing of the past. Rudder breaks through this research uncovering how Facebook “likes” can predict a person’s intelligence or how people express themselves both privately and publicly. Rudder’s findings are noteworthy and small, but they’re based in a large-scale data analysis in a social, corporate, and historical context. Through his analysis, Rudder has truly humanized every click.
Rudder sold OkCupid in 2011, but still runs it day-to-day, while also heading a small data-mining team that scours the digital universe for meaningful trends on important sites. The original outlet for Rudder’s research took place on OKCupid’s blog, OKTrends, which was not only read by millions of people but also changed the way companies approach data as a media-relations strategy. His research and findings have been featured repeatedly in The New York Times, Harper’s, The Atlantic, and were the subject of a New Yorker feature.
Rudder makes the perfect addition to our X=Experience lineup. We’re so excited to have him share his findings into humanizing every click. Check back on September 20th for more details regarding his presentation!
